I love this quote by Steve Jobs. We fill our entire week with work, now more than ever since a lot of people are working from home. The Work/Life balance is getting harder to find. It is difficult to leave work at work when you work from your house so I think it is important to love what you do. I never knew 100% what I wanted to be when I grew up. It changed over time and I found hobbies I liked but nothing that would lead to a career. I love to cook & bake but didn't necessarily want to be a chef. I love language & linguistics. I love to teach but never wanted to be a teacher (side story - I tried my hand at substitute teaching 4th graders and WOW go thank the teachers in your life RIGHT NOW! That is a hard job!) I love design but never thought of myself as super creative, I'm definitely more left-brained. I had jobs in customer service from the time I could drive & knew I wanted to help people, but I didn't want to sit behind a desk all day. Then I found real estate; I could put all of my hobbies & skills to use in this career. I could make my own schedule & be my own boss! I could bake cookies for open houses & stage rooms for photos. And who doesn't love to look at houses all day?? Sounded perfect, and in some ways it is.
I love my job & this is the career I want in life, but being a Realtor is STRESSFUL. Yes, you get to make your own schedule, but it is almost entirely dependent on your clients schedule. You can't make it to a showing until 7pm on a Saturday? I'm there! We need a open house on this listing? Take my Sunday. I don't work 9-5, I work 24/7 & I do take pride in that! I try to be there for my clients at any time, any day of the week. That's what I would want for me, so that's what I do for my clients (I do have downtime sometimes & I'm learning to "love the lull" to take care of other things when the market slows down) I also get to teach a little bit with this job. Buying or selling a house is a huge & daunting task- if you've never done it before, you may not know all of the steps of the process (which are constantly changing by the way) The intricacies of contract, the details of the deal, the organization & step by step processes, the problem solving when it doesn't go according to plan is absolutely my calling. I also get to help out other agents from time to time, which is super rewarding. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by incredibly supportive & helpful agents when I first started so I try to pay it forward. I think down the road I'd love to be a managing broker or a team leader. Goals! I never knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I knew I wanted to help people. This is my way to do that, on my terms with personalized service. Loving what you do doesn't mean it isn't stressful or hard. It means you keep working & pushing forward despite the challenges. I fell in love with Real Estate 5 years ago & has changed drastically since I started, especially in these Covid-times. I'm grateful I am still able to do what I love & feel truly blessed to have a job at all. I love the #realestatelife! Do you love what you do? I'd love to hear what you're passionate about!
